Tactical Trauma Training (1
Day Course)
Course Presenter: Benjamin Bonya or Patrick McMahon
Tactical
Trauma Training (T3) is a self-aid/buddy-aid course of instruction based on current military medical training. Law enforcement
is a dangerous and dynamic business. Due to the unpredictable nature of police work, law enforcement officers often
sustain serious injuries while working in the line of duty. Whether an officer is involved in a devastating
car wreck, suffers a gunshot wound, is stabbed, or experiences other types of traumatic injuries, they often find themselves
waiting for paramedics to arrive to treat their wounds. This “wait period” can literally be
a matter of life or death for an injured officer. Now more than ever law enforcement officers need to be able to take care of themselves
and each other. The ideas/methods presented in this class are basic and easy to remember. Why?
“A professional is someone who does the basics better than everyone else.”
Based on military combat casualty care guidelines, T3 covers the 3 treatable causes of mortality on
the battlefield: Bleeding Airway Obstruction Penetrating chest trauma
Case studies will be presented where officers suffered severe injuries in the line of duty.
These officers received immediate tactical trauma treatment, which was credited with saving their lives.
In addition to tactical trauma training, officers will receive instruction on the importance of having
a "survival mindset". Preparing the mind to survive
during times of stress can help an officer deal with a traumatic injury in a calm manner. Instead of an
officer saying, “I can’t believe this happening,” he or she will train the mind to say, “I knew this
would happen one day, and I’m ready for it”.
This training course was designed by a police officer, for police
officers. The techniques and methods presented in this course can better prepare police officers
to save their own lives, or the lives of an injured officer. By exposing law enforcement officers to Tactical
Trauma Training today, they will be better prepared to survive tomorrow.
Topics Covered: Bleeding control-
bandages and tourniquets Recognition and treatment of “sucking chest wounds” Methods for opening an airway Signs and symptoms of shock “The Golden Hour” “The Platinum 10 Minutes” Medical planning Medical equipment considerations Transport considerations Survival Mindset

Patrol Officer Survival
Techniques "Surviving the Beat"
Course Presenter: Jason White/Kevin Navarro
Patrol officers are
the backbone of all local and state police agencies across the country. They are highly visible in the
communities due to their uniformed standards and marked police cars. Patrol officers are on the front lines
protecting law abiding citizens from their greatest fear; being the victim of a violent crime.
All too often, patrol officers find themselves as the victim of a violent encounter with a hostile suspect.
Whether an officer is being proactive by aggressively targeting criminals or reactive by responding to calls for service,
the threat of an assault is always present. How an officer mentally prepares on a daily basis can mean
the difference between life and death.
The majority of law enforcement
training courses target specialized areas of police work such as narcotics, vice, gangs, SWAT, and homicide investigations.
Without good, sound patrol officers, these units would be ineffective.
This 1 day training course was designed to target the officers that patrol the streets every day.
Instruction will be presented on the most common types of street crimes that led to violent encounters for the patrol
officer. Officers will also be exposed to the process of police involved shootings from the time the shots
are fired, to the criminal & internal investigations, and finally dealing with the event behind the scenes.
Proven techniques to conduct street-level interviews will be presented
as well. This acquired skill can ultimately prevent officers from being assaulted by the criminals they
are talking to.
Ethical considerations will be discussed as
well. "From patrol to prison" is a common theme that law enforcement agencies are routinely forced
to deal with.

a conviction and send the drug violator to prison. Officers will receive tips for testifying along with
terminology that should be included in drug arrest reports.

Patrol Officer Use of
Force (1 Day Course) "An
Internal Affairs Perspective"
Course Presenter: Gerardo Guardiola
The
Internal Affairs Division is dedicated to keeping the Integrity and public trust of its department. In
doing so, the Internal Affairs Division conducts various investigations that involve complaints made by citizens on police
officers as well as complaints made by officers on other officers. The most common complaint investigated
by Internal Affairs is excessive force utilized by Patrol Officers. With today’s technology, Patrol Officers'
actions are nearly always audio/video recorded. This advancement in technology has helped officers clear their names
from citizens claiming the unjustly use of excessive force, as well as prevent officers from facing criminal charges on questionable
deadly force confrontations. The audio/video recordings have also held officers accountable that utilized excessive
force.
During this one day training course, officers will review never
before seen police videos. This will enable officers to get a firsthand look at and will be asked to “Monday
Morning Quarterback” if the officer in the video used excessive force, etc. The training course will
replicate an Internal Affairs setting and group officers together to review the videos. This training exercise demonstrates
how two different people (commanders, supervisors, or jurors) can watch the same video and reach completely separate
decisions on the use of force.
Officers will discuss various topics to include alcohol-related issues,
financial issues, officers panicking and placing themselves in more trouble than necessary and poor decision making.
Finally, officers will also participate in a case study where a law enforcement
officer was killed in the line of duty. The instructor was tasked with the difficult challenge of conducting the internal
investigation. Techniques and suggestions will be presented in the class to teach officers what to expect from the "Internal
Affairs Perspective" during an incident where an officer was killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
Topics
Covered The Internal Affairs Perspective Use of Force Definitions Civil & Criminal Officer Liability Police Officer Adverse Conduct (On/Off Duty) Officer
Safety Concerns Exposure to Never Seen Police Use of Force Videos Police Officers & Money Police Officer Alcohol-Related Arrests The Importance of Proper Documentation Deadly
