Benjamin Bonya is a Detective with the Dallas Police Department. Currently
assigned as a Firearms Intelligence Detective, Ben spent 5 years as a Task Force Officer on a Violent Crime Task Force
with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The task force conducted investigations targeting firearms,
gangs, narcotics and violent crime throughout the City of Dallas and elsewhere that resulted in federal and state prosecution. Ben
has assisted in hundreds of undercover and tactical operations in various capacities during his time on the ATF Task Force.
Prior to joining the Dallas Police Department, Ben was a full-time
Paramedic Crew Chief in western Pennsylvania. During that time, he was also a volunteer member of a special medical response
team. The team was comprised of doctors, nurses and paramedics that specialized in “good medicine in bad places”. Ben
deployed as a medical technician for a FEMA Disaster Medical Assistance Team to Ft. Dix, NJ in support of Operation Provide
Refuge which provided medical services for the more than 4,000 Kosovar Albanian refugees. He also deployed as the medical
officer for the FBI SWAT Team from the Pittsburgh, PA Field Office in support of the Southeast Bomb Task Force (aka The Hunt
for Eric Rudolph).
Ben has taught a tactical injury care class for over 700
police officers from multiple law enforcement agencies. He is also a Patrol Rifle Instructor for the Dallas Police Department.
