Dwayne Thompson
started his law enforcement career in 1984, as a correctional officer, with the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1985 and entered the Army’s Military Police Corp, where he was promoted
to the rank of Captain. He is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm.
Dwayne joined the Lawton Police Department in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1989, where he served
for two years, before joining the Dallas Police Department in 1991. After serving as a Dallas Police
patrol officer in the cities toughest area, Dwayne was promoted to the rank of Detective. Dwayne spent
the next ten years investigating property crimes, as well as robberies and violent home invasions.
Based on his work ethic, and his ability to solve crimes, Dewayne was selected to join
the Homicide Unit. Since transferring to the Homicide Unit, Dwayne has worked over seventy-five
(75) homicides, with the majority of them being drug/gang-related. Several of his homicide investigations
were featured on The First 48, a national reality television show that profiles criminal cases.
Dwayne is the second homicide detective in the history of the Dallas Police Department to present a homicide case and
obtain a conviction for prosecution- without having a body for evidence.
Dwayne is an energetic detective who has proven to be an effective investigator.
Because he has a wide range of experience, Dwayne offers a fresh perspective and innovative approach to investigating
crimes. He introduces proven techniques and unique methodologies that will enhance the effectiveness of
law enforcement professionals. Dwayne is committed to sharing his experience and knowledge with others,
as well as continuing to enhance his skills as a Homicide Investigator.
Dwayne has taught numerous classes at the Center
For American And International Law in Plano, Texas. He conducts re-inactments of Murder Investigations to criminal defense
attorneys to provide them with a true understanding regarding the dynamics of the investigations. The criminal defense attorneys
travel from around the world to attend his presentation.
In 2006, Dwayne began teaching criminal investigation courses which have been presented
to hundreds of law enforcement officers. He is a licensed instructor by
the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education (T.C.L.E.O.S.E.)
