Marcia Taylor is currently
a Chief Felony Trial Court Prosecutor with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in Dallas, Texas. As a
trial court prosecutor since 2001, she has prosecuted the entire spectrum of criminal offenses, up to and including capital
murder cases. Over the years she has been assigned to prosecute in numerous courts and has experienced first-hand vast
differences in judges and juries and knows full well the impact of effective testimony. Through her Courtroom Testimony
course in Dallas, Marcia has taught tips for effective courtroom testimony to hundreds of experienced police officers at the
Dallas Police Department’s In-Service Training Academy.
Marcia graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science
from Texas A&M University. She then went on to complete a four year joint-degree program at the University of Texas
at Austin where she earned her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and a Masters in Public Affairs from
the LBJ School of Public Affairs. While in Austin, she also served as an Intern for then-Texas Supreme Court Justice
Greg Abbott.
Following her graduation from Texas A&M and throughout her
law school and graduate school years, Marcia served several semesters as a Graduate Fellow for the Central Intelligence Agency
in Langley, Virginia. She worked in the Directorate of Intelligence researching and writing Leadership Profiles on world
leaders for use by the President, his Cabinet, and other government officials. In recognition of her work while at the
Agency she earned an Exceptional Performance Award in June 1997.
Marcia began her law career at a large Dallas civil law firm working for two years in the Corporate/Securities
Section practicing transactional work that included private and public offerings of securities, mergers and acquisitions work,
and corporate governance. She then worked for a year for a sole-practitioner lawyer in Dallas. It was during this
work that she first experienced a courtroom trial. With encouragement from her boss as well as from the presiding judge
of the trial, Marcia went on to apply for and secure a position at the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
In addition to prosecuting hundreds of cases while at the D.A.’s Office, Marcia
has also twice served as a participating Faculty Advisor for the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association (TDCAA)
– at both the Prosecutors Trial Skills Course training as well as at the Advanced Advocacy Prosecutor Course training.
