This instructor is currently assigned as a Detective on a Mid-Level Narcotic Enforcement Unit with one
of the largest police departments in the United States. In 2004, he was selected to be part of a Uniformed
Violent Crime Task Force targeting high crime and drug infested areas. A primary function of the task force was to conduct
“Knock & Talk” operations at chronic drug houses. As a result of the “Knock &
Talks” and other proactive narcotic enforcement techniques, the instructor participated in hundreds of felony drug arrests.
This task force was responsible for seizing large quantities of illegal narcotics, firearms, and U.S. Currency.
After working on the Uniformed Violent Crime Task Force, this instructor
was selected by the Narcotics Division for street-level narcotic investigations. He quickly distinguished
himself as an excellent undercover officer by aggressively target street-level dealers. Due to his unique
style of undercover work, the instructor was able to shut down/demolish several drug-infested apartment complexes that were
being controlled by gang members.
In 2008, this instructor was selected to join the Mid-Level Narcotic
Enforcement Unit. Although he was the youngest member of the unit, this instructor was
able to infiltrate one of the most violent heroin trafficking organizations in the Metropolitan area where he works. During
the “infiltration stages” of this investigation, he was challenged with violence and weapons were frequently brandished
during the course of the buys in order to intimidate the instructor. The instructor was able to deescalate
the situations each time and walk away safely. In addition to purchasing powder heroin,
tar heroin, crack cocaine, and powder cocaine from the organization, he was able to purchase several firearms and a ballistic
vest. He worked his way from the small, street level purchases to purchasing large quantities of tar heroin
from Hispanic sources of supply that were directly linked to Mexican Drug Cartels.
As a result of the investigation, the unit seized approximately 1.5 kilograms
of black tar heroin, half (1/2) a kilo of powder cocaine and crack cocaine, ten (10) firearms including assault rifles (one
of which was modified to be fully automatic), one (1) pound of Methamphetamine, $21,000 in U.S. Currency, and other seized
assets.
The instructor has
been utilized by DEA, FBI, and HIDTA task forces for undercover work, surveillance, write search warrants, and research/gather
Intel on suspected targets.
In addition to working in an undercover capacity, the instructor continues to assist uniformed
patrol officers with “Knock & Talk” operations, obtaining various types of search warrants, and reviewing
daily drug arrests to submit to the District Attorney’s Office for Prosecution. The instructor currently
assists in the training of new Narcotic Detectives entering the division.
The instructor has nine (9) years of Law Enforcement experience and holds
an Advanced Peace Officers Certificate. He has presented Narcotic related training courses to hundreds
of officers across the country with extremely high reviews.
